Firefighters, first responders, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office were called to a structure fire at approximately 10:09 p.m. in the Cedar Grove Business Park in Grand Marais on Thursday, Oct. 10.

Smoke and flames were visible from town, according to eyewitnesses. The fire was confirmed to be at North Shore Laundry Services.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., firefighters had contained the structure fire. The building is a total loss.

There were no reported injuries and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office told WTIP, nobody was inside the building at the time of the fire.

Responding units include Cook County Sheriff’s Office, North Shore Health Ambulance, Grand Marais Fire Department, Colvill Fire Department, Grand Marais First Responders, Grand Marais Public Utilities, Lutsen Fire Department, and Maple Hill Fire Department.

The Cedar Grove Business Park, located less than a mile from downtown Grand Marais, is run by the Cook County/Grand Marais Economic Development Authority (EDA) and consists of a wide variety of businesses.

As of 6:30 a.m. on Friday morning smoke was still visible from the site. Firefighters have returned to the scene to monitor.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation will be turned over to the Minnesota State Fire Marshal.

WTIP reported that the fire was at North Shore Laundromat, when instead, the fire was at North Shore Laundry Services. WTIP apologizes for the error.
