Grand Marais man found guilty of felony stalking charges

A Grand Marais man was convicted by a jury this week of felony level stalking and harassment charges.

Bradley Joseph Wilson Jr., 23, was convicted of the felony charges, in addition to a charge of violating a harassment restraining order.

A dozen jurors from Cook County reached the guilty verdict after 13 hours of deliberation. Wilson was acquitted on six of the nine charges he was charged with, including on threats of violence.

Cook County Attorney Molly Hicken said the conviction of Wilson on three of the charges is a victory on behalf of the survivor for both the Cook County Attorney’s Office and the Cook County Sheriff’s Department. Hicken also praised the bravery of the county’s primary witness in coming forward to testify against Wilson.

According to court records: Over the course of two years, Wilson threatened to have the victim fired from her job, sent unwanted text messages, and made various crude comments to her in the workplace.

A conviction for stalking in Minnesota carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and a maximum fine of $20,000.

According to information that was shared with WTIP from multiple sources who were involved with the case, Wilson wept as the verdict was read in the courtroom.

Judge Michael Cuzzo set Wilson’s sentencing date for April 25 at the Cook County Courthouse in Grand Marais.
