Gunflint Fire Department to conduct evacuation training Tuesday evening at end of Gunflint Trail
The Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department (GTVFD) kicks off fire season each year with evacuation training for it’s members and residents on the trail. This year the firefighters will knock doors on Seagull and Saganaga Lakes after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28 to talk to residents about being ready to evacuate.
Cassidy Ritter of the GTVFD told WTIP that it was a good opportunity for the department to practice the evacuation protocol. On top of that, she said that it was a good way to get residents to think about fire preparedness. In the event of an actual fire and evacuation, Ritter said that residents can expect essentially the same process that they will experience during the training. During a fire that may require evacuation, the fire department goes door-to-door to speak with every resident about how to evacuate safely.
WTIP’s Kirsten Wisniewski spoke with Cassidy Ritter about the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department’s evacuation training. The training will take place on the evening of May 28. Audio of that interview is below.
