Ice fishing for trout comes to a close March 31 for lakes in and around the BWCA

Lake trout fishing on lakes in and around the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness comes to an end for the ice-fishing season on Friday, March 31.

Ice fishing for stream trout ends March 31 as well. This includes brook, brown, and rainbow trout, as well as splake.

The season for trout on inland lakes ran from Dec. 31 to March 31.

Anglers had mixed results when it came to fishing through the ice on lakes in Cook County this year, according to Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conversation Officer Hudson Ledeen.

The Cook County CO spoke with WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs and Kalli Hawkins live March 30 about the 2023 ice fishing season.
