K9 Eddy marks seven years of service with Cook County Sheriff’s Office
In the world of law enforcement, service dogs are not only companions, they are essential partners.
Trained with incredible precision, these dogs track scents, uncover hidden contraband, and help locate missing people, doing work that’s often beyond the reach of humans.
For seven years, Cook County Sheriff’s Office K9 Eddy, a German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix, has been one of those partners, assisting with numerous calls across the Arrowhead region.
K9 Eddy is trained in detection and patrol and is regularly used for narcotic detection, tracking, apprehension, and handler protection.
“It’s just amazing watching him work,” said Cook County Deputy and K9 handler Paul Spry.
WTIP’s Kalli Hawkins spoke with Cook County Deputy and K9 handler Paul Spry during the summer membership drive at the radio station about K9 Eddy’s seven years with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, memorable calls, ongoing training requirements, and more. Listen to the full interview in the audio below.
Following the interview on Wednesday, July 9, the public was invited to WTIP to meet K9 Eddy. Photos are below.
