Lake County Veterinary Clinic to close Grand Marais location in September
After years of serving pet owners in Grand Marais and along the North Shore, the Lake County Veterinary Clinic in Grand Marais will close its doors this September.
Lake County Veterinary Clinic was founded in 1977 and began operating in Two Harbors, Minn. The clinic then expanded their operations to a second location in Grand Marais 22 years ago.
The veterinary clinic notified its clients of the closure via email on Aug. 5.
“Due to an inability to staff appropriately and added operational costs, it has become difficult to maintain our satellite clinic that has been part of the community for decades,” the Lake County Veterinary Clinic team wrote in the email.
The email cited challenges related to the additional liability of transporting staff and medications, as well as the difficulties of keeping two locations open and operating at full capacity. “Please understand that this has not been an easy decision, and much thought has gone into it. We understand this closure may bring some frustration and sadness,” the email said.
The last day of operation for the Grand Marais location will be Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025. The Lake County Veterinary Clinic stated that it will work with clients during the transition and is available by phone or email to address any questions.
“Thank you so much for understanding. We are extremely grateful to have been trusted to care for your beloved pets for over twenty-two years in Grand Marais and hope that you will continue to choose Lake County Veterinary Clinics at our Two Harbors clinic,” the Lake County Veterinary Clinic team said in the email.
WTIP reached out to Lake County Veterinary Clinic for additional information regarding the closure, and the clinic declined to comment.
