Local organizations and businesses invited to become Weather-Ready Nation Ambassadors

The National Weather Service office in Duluth is inviting community organizations, agencies, and businesses to become Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassadors.

Weather Ready Nation Ambassadors are leaders in their communities who serve to amplify and expand the reach of National Weather Service messages, including weather safety, seasonal weather information, climatology information, service changes, and other similar information.

“We want people that have direct contact with visitors,” Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador Liaison Linda Engebretson told WTIP.

The Weather Ready Nation Ambassadors program is also a collaboration between the National Weather Service and community organizations to collaborate on building community resilience to extreme weather by providing information for better decision making.

Engebretson said aspiring ambassadors do not need specific training, but the ambassador role requires the distribution of National Weather Service information via news stories, broadcasts, and social media.

In the Duluth-Twin Ports area, Engebretson said there are approximately 50 ambassadors. In Cook County, there are two Weather Ready Nation Ambassadors organizations. Java Moose and WTIP are current ambassadors. Engebretson said the National Weather Service is looking to add more to the program.
