Parent & caregiver book club starting this fall with Sawtooth Mountain Clinic
Starting this fall, the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic is offering a parenting and caregiver book club for individuals looking to connect with others and develop their caregiving skills.
“It’s a time for us to just connect over some research-based books and enjoy conversation with others who are in the same period of life,” said Jodi Tervo Roberts, early childhood community HUB navigator.
As a fellow parent of two young children, Roberts shares that parenting can sometimes be isolating. One of Robert’s roles as the early childhood community HUB navigator is to engage with families of young children. She said her main objective is to “Help figure out what resources are needed in our communities and help families connect to those resources.”
Roberts approached Cook County Higher Education with the idea of a book club to engage fellow parents and caregivers. The two organizations collaborated and applied for a Women’s Initiative for Service and Education (WISE) grant to fund the purchase of the books for registered participants.
The two-session fall book club will kick off on September 27 with the book “The Whole Brain Child” by Daniel J. Siegel. The second session for the book is on October 25. Roberts said that the sessions are held on zoom, so parents and caregivers can attend without needing to find childcare.
Interested individuals can sign up for the online book club through Cook County Higher Education.
