Search and Rescue Lieutenants talk about how the group stays ready for anything

Cook County Search and Rescue (SAR) is an all-volunteer group that works with other emergency response organizations to assist residents and visitors across the county. SAR volunteers come from different backgrounds and bring different skills to the team. Their unifying factor is an interest in serving their community, and being willing to take on a mystery.

The overall organization is broken up into several smaller teams determined by geography. Ben Seaton is the lieutenant for the Gunflint Trail district, and Tyson Smith Serves as a lieutenant in Grand Marais. They both spoke with WTIP about what drew them to the organization, as well as how the group approaches the important work of locating lost or stranded people in the wilderness.

WTIP’s Sterling Anderson and Kirsten Wisniewski spoke with Ben Seaton and Tyson Smith during the North Shore News Hour. Audio of that interview is below.
