State Representative Roger Skraba and International Falls Mayor Harley Droba talk mining, ERA, and funding rural services in candidate forum for District 3A seat

The Minnesota House of Representatives District 3A seat will be on the ballot this November. Incumbent Roger Skraba (R) is running for reelection. He is challenged by International Falls Mayor Harley Droba (DFL). On Jun. 28 the two participated in a candidate forum hosted by the Lake County Press, and moderated by Brian Larsen, editor of the Cook County News Herald.

During the 75 minute forum the candidates were asked to weigh in on a range of topics. Larsen began by telling the candidates that the questions and subjects were submitted by the public. The forum began with each candidate introducing themselves. Questions were asked about the following topics, at approximately the following times in the recording.

  • Mining, regulation of natural resource based industries (6:00; 1:04:00)
  • Housing (Cook county specific, 11:00; regionally, 1:00:00)
  • Equal Rights Amendment (16:00)
  • Insurance in Minnesota, connection to climate change (24:00)
  • Rural school funding (27:00)
  • Partisanship in the legislature (31:00)
  • Single-payer health insurance (36:00)
  • Tax rates (39:00)
  • the state omnibus tax bill (45:00)
  • Securing state funding for local/regional projects (49:00)
  • Access to emergency medical care (54:00)

The candidates ended with a few rapid-fire questions from Larsen, as well as closing remarks.
