Summer solstice and wooden boat festival returns to Grand Marais
This weekend, North House Folk School in Grand Marais will host the annual Summer Solstice and Wooden Boat Festival, one of three major events the organization hosts each year.
Rae Wojcik, the folk school’s communications manager, said the annual event is a “celebration of summer.”
“When you live this far north, summer is a big deal. This is our celebration of the season, and we’re hosting a big event this weekend that is free. It’s full of craft, full of fun times together, and everyone is invited to celebrate this new season with us,” said Wojcik.
Festivities kick off on Friday, June 19, with live music, food, and a poetry celebration. On Saturday, June 20, the public can walk along the harborside to see wooden boats, listen to live music, and then, in the evening beginning at 8 p.m., attend the solstice pageant. There are several other events and activities planned for Sunday.
