Two campers found deceased at Isle Royale National Park

Two campers were found deceased at a remote backcountry campground at Isle Royale National Park.

Late Sunday afternoon, June 8, at approximately 4:00 p.m., park rangers at Isle Royale National Park received two separate reports of two persons found deceased at a remote backcountry campground within the park.

Two park rangers hiked 11 miles overnight to the campground to assess the situation and arrived early Monday morning. The park rangers found two unidentified persons deceased at the campground. Isle Royale National Park officials said the causes of death are unknown at this time.

Additional ground and aviation resources responded starting Monday.

The incident is currently under investigation. Isle Royale National Park officials said more information will be released as it is made available.
