Vikings will host playoff game on Saturday

The Cook County Vikings football team finished the regular season undefeated with a win over the Littlefork-Big Falls Vikings 28-21 on Oct. 15.

The undefeated season earned the Vikings a first-round playoff bye. Up next, they will host a home playoff game on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 2 pm against the North Woods Grizzlies. The Grizzlies are coming off a 30-8 win over Bigfork in the first round of the playoffs after finishing the regular season 4-4.

The teams met two weeks ago on Oct. 9 at Lyle Anderson Field, with the Vikings winning 20-0. In the win, Talon Deboer ran for two touchdowns. The big play of the game came in the second quarter when quarterback Nick Spry connected with receiver Macoy Fairbanks for a 71-yard touchdown.

The winner of Saturday’s game will advance to the Section 7 9-man championship game against the winner of another Saturday matchup between the South Ridge Panthers and the Littlefork-Big Falls Vikings. The championship game is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 31, at 6 pm at Cheever Field in Hibbing.
