Wisconsin man’s body recovered from Lake Superior near Split Rock River

Authorities recovered the body of a Wisconsin man from Lake Superior near the Split Rock River wayside rest Tuesday afternoon.

The man, identified as John Driscoll, 75, from Barron, Wisc., was found face down in the lake at about 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6. A party on the beach contacted authorities after finding the man face down in the lake.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Lake County Rescue Squad responded to the scene and recovered Driscoll’s body.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities said no additional information is available at this time.

The Split Rock River wayside rest and trailhead area is approximately 15 minutes south of Silver Bay along Minnesota’s North Shore.
