WTIP wins six awards from Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association

WTIP took home six awards during the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association award ceremony Saturday night in Minneapolis, including four first place awards.

The station won first place for the radio series titled “It Happens Here: The Roots of Racial Inequity on the North Shore,” produced and written by Staci Drouillard and co-hosted by Leah Lemm.

First Place Writing for Broadcast: Jess Koski’s Notes from Reservation River “The Best Dog in the World.”

First Place Soft Feature: Will Moore’s Powering Down “The Silence Family in a Sea of Green”

Awards of Merit went to:

Superior Swimmers, a video feature from “Beyond the Canoe” by Matthew Baxley, and the Soft Feature:  “Steger’s Ice Ball” by Barbara Jean Meyers.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs won first place in the Best Investigative Reporting category for a 2022 story titled “WTIP and MN Dept of Health investigation finds no evidence for brain cancer cluster in Cook County.”

The award ceremony was held April 1 at The Graduate Hotel in downtown Minneapolis.
