Cook County has highest vaccination rate, lowest case count as vaccine events continue

Cook County residents age 65 or older are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine Thursday, Feb. 11 in an event at the Cook County Community Center in Grand Marais.

There were no additional cases of COVID-19 reported in Cook County over the weekend. The case count remains at 116 since the start of the pandemic.

Cook County now has the highest percentage of residents who’ve been vaccinated compared with any other county in Minnesota. As of late last week, 1,742 Cook County residents, which equates to nearly 33 percent of the population, have received the first dose of the vaccine. A total of 273 local residents have completed the series and are fully vaccinated.

Cook County now has the unique distinction of having the lowest total case count of any county in the state since the onset of the pandemic. No other county in Minnesota has reached the 30 percent milestone with regard to the percentage of their population to receive the first dose of the vaccine.
