Some questions and answers on Highway 61 construction in Grand Marais
Construction work in Grand Marais continues, with the Broadway Avenue and Highway 61 intersection now open, but with a four-way stop signified by the stoplight flashing red.
The road going into the Grand Marais Post Office remains closed from the Highway 61 entrance.
Some motorists are asking why the signal is flashing red and why that post office street is still closed. WTIP’s Rhonda Silence spoke with Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Grand Marais Project Engineer Edward Welch to find out.
Welch also talked about speeding traffic and about the difficulties some drivers encounter trying to enter Highway 61 from businesses such as My Sister’s Place restaurant, Gene’s Foods and Subway. Click below to hear their conversation.
Welch also encourages anyone with questions or concerns to join MnDOT for a weekly online public meeting. The meetings are every Thursday at 1 p.m. and information on how to observe or participate can be found on the MnDOT project website
Project Manager Welch also said he checks his email for questions and those will be addressed in the weekly Thursday meetings. He can be reached at edward.welch@state.mn.us.
