Cook County Attorney Molly Hicken to leave position in 2025
Molly Hicken has served Cook County for the past 17 years. She began as the Assistant County Attorney in 2007, before shifting to the County Attorney role in 2012. Hicken has announced that she will be leaving the post at the beginning of 2025.
In a resignation letter emailed to employees of the county, which Hicken shared with WTIP, she wrote “I moved to Grand Marais in 2007, 28 and single, for my first lawyer job as Assistant County Attorney. I lived across the street house-sitting until I found a place to live. I grew up inside these walls as a person and an attorney.” She added in the email, “I leave only so that I can stretch and grow more, and so that I can pass along the reins to the next deserving leader. ”
Hicken will be moving on from her role at the county in order to serve as Chief Legal Officer at Midwest Family Ski Resorts, which includes Lutsen Mountains. Her final day with the county will be Jan. 2, 2025.
In her official resignation letter which was published in the meeting packet for the upcoming Cook County Board of Commissioners meeting, Hicken recommended to the board that they appoint Assistant County Attorney Jeanne Peterson to finish Hicken’s term as County Attorney.
