Cook County has lowest COVID case count in Minnesota heading into September

Despite more than 2,000 new cases statewide, there were no new cases of COVID-19 reported in Cook County over the weekend and into Monday, leaving the total case count since the start of the pandemic at six.

As case counts continue to climb in other parts of the state, Cook County now has the fewest confirmed cases of any county in Minnesota. Kittson County and Lake of the Woods County each have seven confirmed cases.

The last reported case in Cook County was first reported publicly on August 13. Meanwhile, nearby Lake County’s case count did continue to climb in recent days. As of August 31, the total count in Lake County stands at 34. Likewise, the number of cases in St. Louis also continues to go up and is now at 885 total cases since the start of the pandemic.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Cook County Public Health Supervisor Grace Grinager about the low case count in the county and what to prepare for heading into Labor Day weekend when it comes to the new coronavirus
