Snow arrives along the North Shore ahead of Thanksgiving
With the recent arrival of snow in Cook County and along the North Shore, winter has officially begun.
A winter weather advisory continues until 2 p.m. on Nov. 25. Many areas along the Lake Superior shore and farther inland have received 2-4 inches of snow. Additional snow accumulations may be up to two inches in some places, according to the National Weather Service.
“It looks like we’ll have that light snow continuing pretty much all morning and then starting to taper off this afternoon,” Kevin Huyck, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Duluth, said.
While 1-3 inches is still expected this afternoon, Huyck said the snow will be more of a “conversational light fluff” rather than create significant travel impacts.
Huyck said the CoCoRaHS data shows snowfall reports as of 8:40 a.m. at:
- 3.1 inches west of Grand Marais
- 2.1 inches near Tofte
- 3.4 inches near Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center in Finland
The WTIP Station has received 3.5 inches as of 11:45 a.m.
WTIP spoke with National Weather Service Meteorologist Kevin Huyck on Monday, Nov. 25, about snowfall reports and an outlook for Thanksgiving week. The audio from the interview is below.
