Precinct caucus night in Cook County approaches
Republicans and Democrats across Minnesota will gather for precinct caucuses at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Minnesota’s political parties run the meetings and offer individuals a chance to discuss policy priorities and consider candidates to help shape party platforms.
Precinct caucuses mark the beginning of each party’s candidate-selection process, which continues through conventions and primary elections later in the year. Caucus meetings may differ regionally, but the Minnesota Secretary of State says the three main activities are: individuals choosing volunteers to organize precinct-level political activities, discussing issues and ideas the party should support, and, lastly, choosing delegates who will endorse candidates at future conventions.
In Cook County, caucuses will take place at several locations on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m.
The Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party will hold precinct caucuses at three locations. On Tuesday, meetings will be held at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts in Grand Marais, the Birch Grove Community Center in Tofte, and at the Hovland Townhall in Hovland.
The Republican Party will hold its caucus at The Hub, 10 North Broadway Ave, in Grand Marais.
The Minnesota Secretary of State website says attending a caucus is a “great way to show support for a candidate, raise an issue that’s important to you, influence who the party will endorse for many offices, and meet people in your community.”
Voters can find the location of their party’s caucus by visiting the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.
