Two commissioners seek reelection, Ginny Storlie announces she won’t run again
Although the candidate filing date is still a few weeks away, two Cook County Commissioners have declared their intent to seek reelection, and one commissioner has announced a decision not to run for election this year.
The three commissioners whose terms end this year and are up for election in November are District 1 Commissioner Deb White, District 3 Commissioner Dave Mills, and District 5 Ginny Storlie.
During the April 28 board meeting, Mills and White announced their intention to run for reelection.
Commissioner Storlie announced that she will not seek reelection.
“I have decided after 15 years of public service, I will not be re-upping as commissioner,” Storlie said.
Storlie served for three years as a supervisor for Lutsen Township before stepping into the elected role as a Cook County Commissioner. A position she had held for the past 12 years.
“I think it’s time to wind down and do other things,” Storlie said during the meeting.
Storlie said she’s hoping there are “good candidates” in her district who will run this November and, if elected, bring a “new eye” to county matters. She said to the board, “And I know they will do well, because you will welcome them.”
As commissioner for District 5, Storlie represents Schroeder, Tofte, and Lutsen. She has lived in Cook County for over three decades and been active in the community, particularly the “West End.”
Storlie told WTIP after the board meeting that she feels as though she has been “part of great decisions moving the county forward” throughout her years on the board. She has served on numerous boards and committees during her time, including the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission, the Gitchi-Gami Trail Association Committee, the North Shore Forest Collaborative, the Taconite Harbor Advisory Committee, the Arrowhead Counties Association, and others.
The filing window for candidates seeking county offices begins May 19 and runs through June 2.
