Sawtooth Mountain Clinic announces fall vaccine event schedule

Sawtooth Mountain Clinic announced its schedule of vaccine events throughout Cook County this fall. Events will be held at the lower level of Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, the Gunflint Trail Schaap Community Center and the Bluefin Bay Tofte Room.

Appointments are required for vaccinations during the events. All events are open to people ages 9 and older.

“The goal of these seasonal vaccines is to really reduce the number of people who are experiencing severe illness or needing to be hospitalized because of the effects of these illnesses.,” Public Health and Human Services Director Grace Grinager told WTIP. 

The events will offer high-dose flu shots for people 65 and older. High-dose COVID-19 vaccines will also be available for people 65 and older and those 12 and older with certain medical conditions. Patients are encouraged to call the clinic with questions.

Lower Level of Sawooth Mountain Clinic

• Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 3-6:30 p.m.
• Thursday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m.-noon and 1:30-4:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m.-noon and 1:30-4:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 7-10:30 a.m.

Gunflint Trail Schaap Community Center

• Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Bluefin Bay Tofte Room

• Thursday, Oct. 29, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Kid and Family Vaccine events will be held from noon-2 p.m. Oct. 10 and 3-5 p.m. Oct. 14.

Appointments will provide children with access to flu and COVID-19 vaccines and give the clinic’s care team an opportunity to check whether any immunizations are missing from a child’s medical record. Parents and guardians can also be vaccinated at the same time.

The clinic reminds people to bring their insurance cards. Regular-dose flu shots cost $27, while high-dose flu shots cost $103. COVID-19 vaccines cost between $143 and $201, depending on the type of vaccine.

“I’ll also say that these vaccines are typically covered by insurance, so getting a vaccine typically won’t cost you anything out of pocket, and that’s a huge benefit for us to take advantage of if we have insurance coverage,” Grinager said.
