Cook County experiences the good, the bad, and the strange on Grand Marais Community Facebook page

The Grand Marais Community Page on Facebook is a popular landing spot for discussion, information sharing, and occasionally disagreements to take place among both local residents of Cook County and people who enjoy visiting the North Shore and Boundary Waters region.

The page started in late 2019, not long before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The founder and sole administrator of the Grand Marais Community Page is Gunflint Trail resident Mike Kwasniewicz. As of late May, there are now more than 20 other moderators who also have some degree of control over the social media page.

There are more than 2,400 members subscribed to the Grand Marais Community Page. Some of the members are only there to observe, while others comment on nearly every post shared on the page.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Kwasniewicz about the page, how it’s grown over the past three years, and what the future holds for the Grand Marais Community Facebook page. Audio below.
