Summer North Shore hike: Devils Kettle

Story by WTIP youth volunteer Ezme Mundell

On July 16th, 2024 I headed toward Grand Portage with My mom, sister, and grandparents. We first stopped at the Naniboujou restaurant for lunch. The historical building is beautifully painted inside and looks like a dream of colors. The building includes a rock fireplace, the largest in Minnesota! WOW! The historical building has not been repainted since 1920 when it was first created as a clubhouse. Now it is a peaceful place to eat lunch!

I shared the yummy Club sandwich, a turkey, brie cheese, bacon, cranberry sauce, and French onion soup with my mom. My sister got the kids mac n cheese! (A cheesy bowl of goodness!) Then To-Go we got their huge cinnamon roll! So good!

After lunch, we headed to Judge Magney State Park to hike Brule River, Devil’s Kettle hike. The hike is a 2-mile round trip that takes about an hour to complete. It has a little over 200 steps to climb! (For me it was a wonderful challenge!) The Devil’s Kettle waterfall was a little disappointing as we could not really tell where the water was splitting and disappearing. Overall it was a fun hike though! Beautiful trail!
