Duluth-based Lake Superior Magazine transitions to new ownership
At the start of February, the Lake Superior Magazine transitioned to new ownership. The Duluth-based publication, which began in 1979, is now owned by Linda Nervick.
Nervick has over 30 years of publication experience and, in the late 1990s, worked for the Lake Superior Magazine. “I love all of the factors that go into putting together something as wonderful as the Lake Superior Magazine,” Nervick said.
Now she has returned to the Lake Superior Magazine, this time as its owner, and will guide the long-running publication into its next chapter.
“This is truly an honor to carry on the traditions of Lake Superior magazine,” said Nervick.
The regional magazine was formerly owned by Paul and Cindy Hayden from 1984 to 2018, and in 2018 was sold to Ron Brochu and Beth Bily. Nervick said Bily has since passed away, and Brochu was looking to have someone carry on the magazine’s legacy.
While the new ownership is fairly new, Nervick said she intends to keep the magazine’s rich history and “vibe,” but expand into digital and interactive video avenues.
At the moment, Nervick said there have been slight changes to the staff, but she anticipates much of the staff will remain the same. One longtime Lake Superior Magazine staff member is Editor Konnie LeMay. Nervick said LeMay will help guide the editorial direction during the transition period. “Konnie will be a part of the magazine, as she’s saying, for the start.”
In a few years, in 2029, the Lake Superior Magazine will reach its 50th anniversary. Nervick said she already has some ideas in mind for how to celebrate the upcoming milestone. As she looks ahead, she said she is looking forward to the new chapter and “bringing a world-class publication and websites like lakesuperior.com to our world.”
