Cook County West End Alanon

The West End Alanon family Group meets each Wednesday at 7 pm at the Lutsen Town Hall.  Alanon is a group that supports friends and family members of alcoholics.  The group welcomes anyone who has been affected by a friend or family member who has a problem with alcohol.

Northern Lotus Meditation

Northern Lotus Meditation takes place on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 pm, with instruction in meditation and room manners at 6:45 pm, at Two Birds Healing Arts Center in Grand Marais.

Dockside Sessions - Molly Dean

The North Shore Music Association, North House Folk School, and WTIP North Shore Community Radio are organizing the inaugural Dockside Sessions, a new series of free outdoor concerts taking place on the first three Wednesdays in August at 7:30 p.m. on the North House Folk School Commons.

Bird Banding Demonstrations

Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center hosts bird banding demonstrations on Thursday mornings between 7 am and 11 am. Demonstrations are weather-dependent. Call the Cove to check at 218-663-7679. More information at sugarloafnorthshore.org.

Sawmill Tours

Sawmill Tours at Hedstrom Lumber are held during the summer on Thursdays at 10 am and 1 pm. Tours are led by Steve Robertson, a recently retired interpreter for the US Forest Service. Tours require a reservation. Reservations can be made at hedstromlumber.com.

Grand Marais Farmers Market

The Grand Marais Farmers Market is held on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 pm at the Cook County Community Center Parking Lot. The market is operated as a partnership between the Northwoods Food Project, the Cook County Community Center, and Cook County U of MN Extension.

Finland Farmers Market

The Finland Farmers Market is held on Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 pm at the Clair Nelson Center pavilions.

Tofte Township meeting

The Tofte Township Board of Supervisors meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Tofte Town Hall at 7 pm. More information at toftemn.com.

Assistance Requested for Historical and Archeological Survey of Grand Marais

The State of Minnesota, through the advisory board of the Statewide Survey of Cultural and Historical Sites, has commissioned an archaeological survey of the City of Grand Marais. The EARTH Systems Research Laboratory at Minnesota State University, Mankato, is conducting the survey to gather and report information about locations where archaeological sites exist within the city limits.

To conduct a thorough survey, the Grand Marais community is invited to share their knowledge of specific locations where artifacts from ancient and historical Native American occupations have been found, as well as where early historical European American artifacts have been found.
