Grand Marais Al-Anon Meetings

Monday Night Al-Anon will meet Mondays, at 7 pm at the First Congregational Church in Grand Marais.

Summer food program

Cook County Schools hosts a summer food program from June 9 to August 15. The program provides meals for all children 18 and younger. No registration or income requirements necessary.

Meals are Monday to Friday, breakfast from 8:30 to 9:15 am, and lunch from 11:15 am to noon. Meals must be eaten in the cafeteria.

"They Had a Big Feast: Chippewa City and Ojibwe Food Knowledge at the Turn of the 20th Century" with Staci Drouillard

The Cook County Historical Society is hosting a presentation from local author Staci Drouillard titled, They Had a Big Feast: Chippewa City and Ojibwe Food Knowledge at the Turn of the 20th Century on Tuesday, July 15, from 5 to 7 pm at the Chippewa City Church. Staci will share stories from her book Walking the Old Road and other related texts regarding community foodways and the influence of Ojibwe culture on the foods we still eat and enjoy today.

In addition to the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to sample various pies and are encouraged, but not required, to bring a pie to share.

Meals for International Workers

A meal for international workers will be held on Tuesday, July 15, at 6:30 pm at the Evangelical Free Church (120 5th St., Grand Marais).

Bone Builders

Bone Builders is a group exercise weight training program that was created for adults who are interested in preventing and reducing osteoporosis. Bone Builders meets at the Lutsen Town Hall on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 to 11 am.

Cook County West End Alanon

The West End Alanon family Group meets each Wednesday at 7 pm at the Lutsen Town Hall.  Alanon is a group that supports friends and family members of alcoholics.  The group welcomes anyone who has been affected by a friend or family member who has a problem with alcohol.

Northern Lotus Meditation

Northern Lotus Meditation takes place on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 pm, with instruction in meditation and room manners at 6:45 pm, at Two Birds Healing Arts Center in Grand Marais.

Bird Banding

Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center hosts bird banding on Thursdays from 7 to 11 am.  Special programs about bird banding will be held at 10 am. More information at sugarloafnorthshore.org.

Bird banding is weather dependent; rain or excessive wind may cause the banding session to be cancelled. Sugarloaf Cove can be reached at 218-663-7679 to check.
