Fire destroys cabin at Bearskin Lodge on the Gunflint Trail

A structure fire over the weekend resulted in the loss of a cabin at Bearskin Lodge up the Gunflint Trail. The fire at the resort on East Bearskin Road destroyed cabin number six at the local resort and outfitter, according to the sheriff’s department.

Responding units arrived at approximately 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, to find the structure had been consumed by the fire.

The Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department stayed on the scene for ‘mop-up’ duties and to ensure the fire was not going to spread.

Other responding agencies included: Cook County Sheriff’s Office, USFS Law Enforcement and North Shore Health Ambulance.

“It is always devastating to lose a building to fire and our sympathy is with the owner,” Sheriff Pat Eliasen said in a news release sent to WTIP.

The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time and investigators will continue to examine the evidence.
