GES students participate in litter cleanup and release a PSA
As winter slowly fades away from the North Shore, spring brings a renewed sense of beauty and relief to many in the area. However, alongside this rejuvenation, a less desirable consequence emerges: litter.
Plastic bags, aluminum cans, Styrofoam, long-lost winter hats, and gloves have started to emerge from the receding dirty brown and white snowbanks. In addition, the recent 50 mph high winds experienced in Cook County at the beginning of May only amplified the scattering of trash in town.
Following the high wind event, the Lynx class at Great Expectations School (GES) headed outside to pick up trash surrounding the school property. They filled numerous bags with plastic cans and various debris. After the clean-up project, a few students wrote a public service announcement (PSA) to raise awareness about litter.
WTIP’s Kalli Hawkins visited the students at GES. Audio of the PSA is below.
