Ginny Storlie to serve as 2026 Cook County Board of Commissioners Chair

Each year the Cook County Board of Commissioners meets on the first Tuesday of January to hold an organizational meeting. The meeting includes the election of a chair and vice-chair for the board. This year the meeting was held on Jan. 6, and the commissioners opted to keep District 5 Commissioner Ginny Storlie on as the chair, and District 3 Commissioner Dave Mills as the vice-chair.

This will be Storlie’s second consecutive year as chair, though she has previously held the role. This will be Mills’s fourth year as vice-chair.

Though she advocated for the chair position to rotate through all of the districts when she first returned to it in 2025, Storlie said that this year the board opted to prioritize continuity in the organization.

While 2025 included a change in the make-up of the board, a new county attorney, and a new administrator, to begin 2026 the county’s leadership will remain the same.

WTIP’s Kirsten Wisniewski spoke with Commissioner Ginny Storlie after the 2026 organizational meeting. Audio of that interview is below.
