Large fire burning in downtown Grand Marais

Volunteer firefighters from Grand Marais and other parts of Cook County are battling intense flames at the Crooked Spoon Cafe downtown.

The building housing the Crooked Spoon appears to be a total loss. The fire is spreading to other nearby businesses and building.

Pictures taken by WTIP Reporter Rhonda Silence, who is downtown and sharing updates on the WTIP airwaves, show dark smoke and large flames coming from the area, located on Wisconsin Street near Lake Superior.

The downtown area was blocked off by firefighters before 2 p.m.

The area near the city center in Grand Marais is off limits at this time.
