More cases of COVID-19 reported in Cook County

Cook County Public Health officials report another uptick in the local case count for COVID-19 among local residents.

During a 24-hour span between Monday and Tuesday this week, five new cases of COVID were confirmed in Cook County. This week’s new cases brings the total case count to at least 216 since the start of the pandemic. WTIP is working to obtain information about the new cases, including the ages of those who were infected and if any breakthrough cases were involved in the recent uptick.

Cook County is among the many locations across Minnesota where the delta variant is spreading quickly at this time.

According to the Minnesota Department of Health, the number of people in the ICU is at its highest level for 2021.

Healthcare officials from Grand Marais to Duluth and beyond are asking that people make regular visits to their primary healthcare provider and urge people to get vaccinated.

As of last week, the U.S. has recorded more COVID cases in 2021 than in the previous year. In the last 28 days, the country has recorded 4.3 million new cases and more than 39,000 deaths, according the Johns Hopkins University dashboard.
