Cook County students attend Nordic Skiing World Cup in Minneapolis
Story by WTIP contributor Ezme Mundell
I got to go to the Nordic Skiing World Cup! How cool is that! I got to see some of the world’s fastest skiers in Minneapolis.
Over the course of 2 days each morning, I would wake up, put red, white, and blue glitter on tie USA ribbons in my hair, and head out with my pom-poms to cheer!
On the first day, Jessie Diggins was the only USA skier to make it into sprint finals with her final place being 4th! Jessie’s strong point is not sprinting though so when day 2 came with a distance skate 10k Jessie placed 3rd overall pushing all the way to the finish! Jessie Diggins had a really great time out there full of smiles!
Gus Schumacher made history in Minneapolis taking gold for the men’s 10k for the first time in a decade!
One of the most memorable parts was on the last day I got to ski the sprint course! It was hard, they made it look so easy! Before we headed out back to Grand Marais we went to get signatures from the amazing USA team! Overall, it was such a cool experience! I could barely believe it when I got to see WORLD CUP SKIERS!
