Ecklund shares update on special session, possible statewide mask mandate

The 2020 legislative session rolled along in mid-July, with a second special session starting July 13. It will continue into next week, with major pieces of legislation on the table, including a bonding bill, police reform and a tax bill that could change how short-term rentals are taxed across the state.

Another issue at the forefront of the discussions is a possible statewide mandate requiring people in Minnesota to wear a mask while in public indoor places as the COVID-19 pandemic shows no signs of slowing down. As of July 18, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz had yet to enact a statewide mandate, though such a possibility remains on the table.
