Tettegouche’s High Falls bridge closed until December
Tettegouche State Park reported that the popular High Falls bridge will be closed until December 2025.
Severe flooding between 2022 and 2024 damaged the bridge, and the most recent floods caused it to detach. To ensure the trail remains open in the future, a more resilient bridge is replacing the old one.
Hikers following the Superior Hiking Trail will be rerouted while the new bridge is being built. The trailhead parking lot, group campsites, and nature play area will also be closed and inaccessible to the public during construction.
Crews began working on a temporary access trail in late February and will start bridge construction on June 30, 2025. Northland Constructors of Duluth, Minn., is the lead contractor on the project, which has a total cost of $1.07 million.
