Summer food program

Cook County Schools hosts a summer food program from June 9 to August 15. The program provides meals for all children 18 and younger. No registration or income requirements necessary.

Meals are Monday to Friday, breakfast from 8:30 to 9:15 am, and lunch from 11:15 am to noon. Meals must be eaten in the cafeteria.

Sawmill Tours

Hedstrom Lumber Company hosts Sawmill Tours on Thursdays from 10 to 11:30 am and 1 to 2:30 pm. These tours are led by Steve Robertson, retired interpreter for the US Forest Service. Hedstrom provides safety equipment, and tours involve indoor and outdoor walking over uneven surfaces and climbing stairs. Tours require an online reservation. Memory Café

Care Partners of Cook County’s Memory Café meets on the third Thursday of each month, from 1-2:30 pm at The Hub. A Memory Café is a casual gathering where people with memory loss and the family or friends who care for them can come together in a safe, supportive, relaxed environment.

Thursday Art Night

Joy and Company hosts Thursday Art Night every Thursday from 3:30 – 5 pm.  New events are planned each week.  More information is available on the Joy and Company Facebook page.

Grand Marais Farmers Market

The Grand Marais Farmers Market is held on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 pm through mid-October at the Cook County Community Center parking lot. The market is a partnership between the Northwoods Food Project (a 501c3 non-profit organization), the Cook County Community Center, and the Cook County U of MN Extension.

Finland Farmers Market

The Finland Summer Farmers Market is held on Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 pm under the pavilions at the Clair Nelson Center in Finland. More information is available at finlandfarmersmarket.com.

Films on Fridays

The Films on Fridays series continues at the Cook County Community Center on Friday, July 18, at 6 pm. This series includes black-and-white films from the 1920s through the 1960s. Genres include romantic, comedy, drama, mystery, and noir. All are welcome.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

A household hazardous waste collection event will be held on Saturday, July 19, from 9 am to noon at the Cook County Recycling Center. More information is available at (218) 387-3630.

Brain Health Fair

Care Partners of Cook County presents their first-ever Brain Health Fair on Saturday, July 19, from 10 am to noon at the end of Wisconsin Street (between Drury Lane Books and East Bay Suites). There will be booths from community businesses and organizations featuring tips and tricks for loving your brain.
