The Hovland Volunteer Fire Department’s 50th anniversary celebration will be held Saturday, August 15, at 1 pm at the Hovland Fire Hall.

Local Author Talk with Keith Morris: Growing Up on the Gunflint Trail

Local Author Keith Morris will read and tell stories from his new book, Growing Up on the Gunflint Trail: Essays & Photos from One Family’s 100+ Years: 1915 – 2026, on Saturday, August 15 at 6 pm at Drury Lane Books.

Kyle Johnson - Minnesota Moths

Chik-Wauk Nature Center hosts Kyle Johnson for a presentation on Minnesota Moths on Sunday, August 16, at 2 pm. Kyle conducts moth surveys for the Minnesota Biological Survey. Later in the evening, around dusk (weather dependent), he will offer a moth field trip. The outing will feature strange lights and fermenting fruit baits. Bring a headlamp or flashlight.

Reframe Aging Monthly Roundtable

Care Partners of Cook County hosts a reframe aging monthly roundtable on the third Monday of each month from 12:15 to 1:45 pm at The Hub. A specially-selected book of the month serves as a springboard for the discussion. More information is available at carepartnersofcookcounty.org.

Nature Presentation Interactions at Chik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center

Weekly nature presentations are held on the front porch of Chik-Wauk Museum (in case of inclement weather, the presentations will be held indoors at the Nature Center) on Mondays at 1 pm. All are welcome.

Grief Group

Care Partners of Cook County is hosting a grief group on the 3rd Monday of each month at the Care Partners office from 5 to 6:30 pm. Care Partners Executive Director Julie Wilson will facilitate the gatherings.  No registration is required.  More information at carepartnersofcookcounty.org.

Monday Night Al-Anon will meet Mondays, at 7 pm at the First Congregational Church in Grand Marais.

Happy Hikers

The Happy Hikers organize a weekly hike on Tuesdays at 9 am.  The August 18 hike will be Caribou Falls (SHT from Sugarloaf Road). The group will meet at the Gitchi-Gami Bike State Trail Parking Lot on Highway 61 and Ski Hill Road to carpool, or meet at the trailhead. More information is available on the Happy Hikers – Cook Co.
