The Muffin Man, Kevin Kager, reads his favorite picture books on the beachside by Drury Lane Books on Saturdays at 11 am.
The Hovland Volunteer Fire Department’s 50th anniversary celebration will be held Saturday, August 15, at 1 pm at the Hovland Fire Hall.
Local Author Keith Morris will read and tell stories from his new book, Growing Up on the Gunflint Trail: Essays & Photos from One Family’s 100+ Years: 1915 – 2026, on Saturday, August 15 at 6 pm at Drury Lane Books.
Chik-Wauk Nature Center hosts Kyle Johnson for a presentation on Minnesota Moths on Sunday, August 16, at 2 pm. Kyle conducts moth surveys for the Minnesota Biological Survey. Later in the evening, around dusk (weather dependent), he will offer a moth field trip. The outing will feature strange lights and fermenting fruit baits. Bring a headlamp or flashlight.

Care Partners of Cook County hosts a reframe aging monthly roundtable on the third Monday of each month from 12:15 to 1:45 pm at The Hub. A specially-selected book of the month serves as a springboard for the discussion. More information is available at carepartnersofcookcounty.org.
Weekly nature presentations are held on the front porch of Chik-Wauk Museum (in case of inclement weather, the presentations will be held indoors at the Nature Center) on Mondays at 1 pm. All are welcome.

Monday Night Al-Anon will meet Mondays, at 7 pm at the First Congregational Church in Grand Marais.
The Happy Hikers organize a weekly hike on Tuesdays at 9 am. The August 18 hike will be Caribou Falls (SHT from Sugarloaf Road).
