Grand Portage Band holds elections for three council positions

The Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa held general elections Tuesday, June 9, for three positions.

The positions up for election were secretary-treasurer, District 1 committeeperson and District 2 committeeperson.

Incumbent April McCormick won the secretary-treasurer race over Levi Libra with 56% of the vote. McCormick has served as secretary-treasurer dating back to 2011.

William “Bill” Myers won the District 1 seat, defeating incumbent Tony Stephen with 54.03% of the vote. Myers previously served on the tribal council.

In District 2, Dean Deschampe defeated incumbent Agatha Armstrong with 58.57% of the vote.

The election results were shared on the band’s Facebook page the morning of June 10.
