World Press Institute again brings global journalists to Cook County
Journalists from around the globe will arrive in Grand Marais this week and take part in a public forum on journalism at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts.
The public roundtable discussion is set for 7 p.m. Monday, March 13. The event will feature a question-and-answer session with the ten visiting journalists.
The event is open to all.
This will be the World Press Institute’s (WPI) 58th annual journalism fellowship program. This year, WPI has invited ten journalists from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Turkey to participate in the program.
The WPI program runs from March 3 through May 6 this year. The fellows will spend these nine weeks examining the free press and media innovations and learning about America’s social and cultural diversity and its political system, according to WPI officials.
They will spend the first three weeks in Minnesota, based at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. While in the Twin Cities the group met with journalists from the Star Tribune and Minnesota Public Radio, among other news outlets. Following that, they will visit the North Shore and spend several days in Cook County and Grand Marais. The fellows will then travel around the U.S. for five weeks, meeting with journalists, policy experts, and political, business and community leaders. They will visit New York City, Washington D.C., Miami, Austin, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles before returning to Minnesota for the program’s final week.
