Summer Children's Story Hour

The Muffin Man, Kevin Kager, reads his favorite picture on the beachside by Drury Lane Books on Saturdays at 11 am.

Nature Presentation Interactions at Chik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center

Weekly nature presentations are held on the front porch of Chik-Wauk Museum (in case of inclement weather, the presentations will be held indoors at the Nature Center) on Mondays at 1 pm. All are welcome.

Grand Marais Al-Anon Meetings

Monday Night Al-Anon will meet Mondays, at 7 pm at the First Congregational Church in Grand Marais.

Cook County West End Alanon

The West End Alanon family Group meets each Wednesday at 7 pm at the Lutsen Town Hall.  Alanon is a group that supports friends and family members of alcoholics.  The group welcomes anyone who has been affected by a friend or family member who has a problem with alcohol.

Northern Lotus Meditation

Northern Lotus Meditation takes place on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 pm, with instruction in meditation and room manners at 6:45 pm, at Two Birds Healing Arts Center in Grand Marais.

Grand Marais Farmers Market

The Grand Marais Farmers Market is held on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 pm at the Cook County Community Center Parking Lot. The market is operated as a partnership between the Northwoods Food Project, the Cook County Community Center, and Cook County U of MN Extension.

Finland Farmers Market

The Finland Farmers Market is held on Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 pm at the Clair Nelson Center pavilions.

Tofte Township meeting

The Tofte Township Board of Supervisors meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Tofte Town Hall at 7 pm. More information at toftemn.com.

Shift Shores Workshop

Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a Shifty Shores Workshop on Friday, July 10. Learn about the benefits of buffers and how you can transition a mowed lawn to native plants.  Pre-registration is requested (but not required) at Cookswcd.org.

Tentative schedule for the workshop:

  • 10:45 a.m. -11:00 a.m. – Meet at the Log Cabin(317 W. 5th Street, Grand Marais, MN)
  • 11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. –  Workshop and Lunch – Healthy Shorelines for Healthy Water Quality– Featured Speakers – Lunch Provided
  • 12:00 p.m. -12:30 p.m. – Travel to Devil Track Lake– Prior Restoration Site
  • 12:30 p.m. -1:30 p.m. – Project Tour – The In’s and Out’s of Shoreline Buffer Plantings 
  • 1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.  – Travel to Pike Lake – Planting Site
  • 2:00 p.m. -4:00 p.m. – Active Learning Shoreline planting at Pike Lake
