Beach Knitting with Dappled Fern Fibers is held on the Grand Marais Harbor Beach on Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7 pm and Thursday mornings from 10 to 11:30 am through August. This social knitting group is gently facilitated with thoughtful questions. Bring a simple project, all fiber arts welcome.
The Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium is hitting the road again for its 8th annual Dark Sky Caravan from August 11 to 16.
To celebrate our dark skies, Planetarium staff will be traveling along the North Shore, stopping at different locations each night for a star party.

Bone Builders is a group exercise weight training program that was created for adults who are interested in preventing and reducing osteoporosis. Bone Builders meets at the Lutsen Town Hall on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 to 11 am.
The Grand Marais Public Library will host local poet Amy Woschek Schmidt to teach the monthly poetry workshop on Wednesday, August 13, from 6 to 8 pm. The Cook County SCRAP Society poetry workshops typically involve direct teaching, poetic exercises, and time to share the poetry that participants have been working on, either at home or at the workshop. The workshop is geared to ages fourteen and up.
The West End Alanon family Group meets each Wednesday at 7 pm at the Lutsen Town Hall. Alanon is a group that supports friends and family members of alcoholics. The group welcomes anyone who has been affected by a friend or family member who has a problem with alcohol.
Northern Lotus Meditation takes place on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 pm, with instruction in meditation and room manners at 6:45 pm, at Two Birds Healing Arts Center in Grand Marais.

The Cook County Coalition of Lake Associations (CCCoLA) August meeting will be held on Thursday, August 14, from 10 to 11:30 am at the Schaap Community Center. It will feature a presentation by the Gunflint Loon Project.

Hedstrom Lumber Company hosts Sawmill Tours on Thursdays from 10 to 11:30 am and 1 to 2:30 pm. These tours are led by Steve Robertson, retired interpreter for the US Forest Service. Hedstrom provides safety equipment, and tours involve indoor and outdoor walking over uneven surfaces and climbing stairs. Tours require an online reservation. The Grand Marais Farmers Market is held on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 pm through mid-October at the Cook County Community Center parking lot. The market is a partnership between the Northwoods Food Project (a 501c3 non-profit organization), the Cook County Community Center, and the Cook County U of MN Extension.

The North Shore Music Association and Opp-Hvidston Foundation present Mixed Precipitation’s Pickup Truck Opera Vol. 5: The Return of King Idomeno. These performances fuse classical opera with 1950s doo-wop and 60s girl-group flair—all performed from the bed of a blue Ford Ranger pickup truck.
Performances are on Friday, August 15, at 6:30 pm at the Hovland Town Hall and Saturday, August 16, at 3 pm at Sweetheart’s Bluff in Grand Marais.
