Chippewa City Church Volunteer Event

Historic Cook County is hosting a volunteer event to help get the Chippewa City Church ready to open for the summer on Saturday, May 9, from 10 am to noon. Volunteers are needed for general spring cleaning, landscaping maintenance, and checking on the progress of last year’s tree plantings. Friends of the Superior National Forest Pincushion Community Hike

Friends of the Superior National Forest is hosting a community hike on Saturday, May 9, from 10 to 11:30 am on the Pincushion Trails. It will be an opportunity to meet the team behind Friends of the Superior National Forest, take a short hike, and see an area where volunteers have been working on invasive species removal.  More information and registration at friendssnf.org.

Celebration of Life for Melinda Welch-Spinler

Family, friends and community members are invited to join in a Celebration of Life for Melinda Welch-Spinler Saturday May 9th at the Cook County Community Center in Grand Marais, MN. There will be a potluck at 1:30, songs and stories shared at 3:30 and music, singing and dancing at 4:30.

Monday Night Al-Anon will meet Mondays, at 7 pm at the First Congregational Church in Grand Marais.

Hide Week at North House Folk School

North House Folk School hosts Hide Week from Tuesday, May 12, to Monday, May 18.  Featuring different tanning and sewing methods through coursework, evening programs, and Hide Week Gathering Day on Friday. More information and the coursework schedule at northhouse.org.

The Cook County Board of Commissioners meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room.

"Rural Women Lead the Way" at Cook County History Museum: Exhibit Opening Reception

The Cook County Historical Society presents “Rural Women Lead the Way,” a special temporary exhibit celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Violence Prevention Center. The exhibit will open on Wednesday, May 13, with a reception from 5 to 7 pm that day. The exhibit will be on display through the end of 2026.

StormWise Minnesota-Grand Marais

The University of Minnesota Extension’s Climate Adaptation Partnership, in partnership with Cook County Public Health, is hosting a StormWise Minnesota event on Wednesday, May 13, from 5 to 6:30 pm at Cook County Higher Education.  Participants will explore risks to the Cook County region, such as wildfires and floods, walk through a realistic scenario, and build a personalized emergency plan for their family and property.
