Cook County is partnering with Memorial Blood Centers to host a community blood drive on Thursday and Friday, May 21 and 22, at the Cook County Courthouse. Donors will check in at the courthouse lobby, and the blood drive bus will be parked outside. Community members can sign up in advance on the Memorial Blood Center website (sponsor code 4604). Go Dog North Shore is organizing a volunteer dog park spring clean-up day on Saturday, May 23, from 9 am to noon. Volunteers are needed to help clean up waste, tidy up the trails, shore up the boardwalks, and more. More information at godognorthshore.org.

Drury Lane Books hosts an author talk with Gina Joyce and Laura Muus on Saturday, May 23, from 6 to 7:30 pm. Gina and Laura will speak about their joint publication “She Does” and will be available to sign books and chat afterward. More information at drurylanebooks.com.
All are invited to The American Legion Post 413 Annual Memorial Day Service at the Cook County Courthouse Lawn on Monday, May 25th, at 11 am. Following the service, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 413 will be serving a picnic lunch at the Birch Terrace Supper Club dining room. Veterans and their spouses eat free.
Community Mindfulness Nights are held on the last Monday of every month at Two Birds Healing Arts Center from 6 to 7:30 pm. May 25 will feature a walk with plants of the boreal woods with Lily Wilson. All are welcome.

The Cook County Board of Commissioners meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room.
Cook County will close the Tofte Transfer Station beginning Wednesday, May 27, to demolish the existing facility and construct a new, updated transfer station. The project is expected to take approximately 30 days, with reopening targeted around July 1.
During construction, a temporary dump station will be located just south of the Cook County Highway Department Shop. Operating hours for the temporary site will remain the same as the current Tofte Transfer Station hours.
