The Happy Hikers organize a weekly hike on Tuesdays at 9 am. The August 4 hike will be Carlton Peak. The group will meet at the Gitchi-Gami BIke State Trail Parking Lot on Highway 61 and Ski Hill Road, Lutsen to carpool, or meet at the trailhead. Care Partners is offering a new opportunity for caregivers to gather for casual conversation and mutual encouragement. This monthly meeting is open to anyone who is caring for an older friend or family member, and offers a chance to visit with others who share the caregiving journey. Led by Care Partners volunteers Kathy Reeves and Kay Costello, the group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 pm at The Hub. The Grand Marais City Council meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 6:30 pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall. More information at ci.grand-marais.mn.us.
The West End Alanon family Group meets each Wednesday at 7 pm at the Lutsen Town Hall. Alanon is a group that supports friends and family members of alcoholics. The group welcomes anyone who has been affected by a friend or family member who has a problem with alcohol.
Northern Lotus Meditation takes place on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 pm, with instruction in meditation and room manners at 6:45 pm, at Two Birds Healing Arts Center in Grand Marais.
The North Shore Music Association, North House Folk School, and WTIP North Shore Community Radio are organizing the inaugural Dockside Sessions, a new series of free outdoor concerts taking place on the first three Wednesdays in August at 7:30 p.m. on the North House Folk School Commons.
Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center hosts bird banding demonstrations on Thursday mornings between 7 am and 11 am. Demonstrations are weather-dependent. Call the Cove to check at 218-663-7679. More information at sugarloafnorthshore.org.
Sawmill Tours at Hedstrom Lumber are held during the summer on Thursdays at 10 am and 1 pm. Tours are led by Steve Robertson, a recently retired interpreter for the US Forest Service. Tours require a reservation. Reservations can be made at hedstromlumber.com.
The Grand Marais Farmers Market is held on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 pm at the Cook County Community Center Parking Lot. The market is operated as a partnership between the Northwoods Food Project, the Cook County Community Center, and Cook County U of MN Extension.
The Finland Farmers Market is held on Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 pm at the Clair Nelson Center pavilions.
