The Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery hosts Borderlands, a collaborative exhibition featuring prominent regional artists Betsy Bowen, Jeanne Hedstrom, Stephan Hoglund, and Heidi Sobanja. An opening reception will take place on Friday, July 17, from 5 to 7 pm. The exhibit will run through August 9.

The Cook County Historical Society leads Harbor History Walking Tours on Fridays from 7 to 8:30 pm (weather permitting). Interested participants can meet outside the History Museum and should be able to walk approximately a mile on uneven surfaces. More information at cookcountyhistory.org.

The annual West End Gaden Club Flower Show will be held on Saturday, July 18, from 1 to 5 pm at Waves of Superior Cafe, Surfside on Lake Superior in Tofte. This year’s theme is “America the Beautiful”.
Minnesota author Tom Toftey will share insights into his latest project, building on the reflections of his father, Ade Toftey, on Saturday, July 18, from 2 to 4 pm at the Cook County History Museum. Ade was a significant figure in local history, known for his involvement with the Cook County Historical Society, his role as editor of the Cook County News Herald, and his long-standing “Remember When” column.
The event is part of the Cook County Historical Society 2026 Speaker Series.
The funeral service for Julie Ann Kean of Hovland will be held on July 18 at 3 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hovland followed by a public celebration of life and potluck at the Hovland Town Hall. If you like, please bring your favorite piece of art of Julie’s to share with people.
The Gunflint Trail Historical Society’s Artist-in-Residence program hosted jazz guitarist and composer Briand Morrison in March, providing space to reflect on his musical journey and deepen his work honoring his Anishinaabe heritage. Briand will return for a community concert on Saturday, July 18, from 4 to 6 pm at the A. Paul & Carol Schaap Community Center, inspired by his time being on the Gunflint Trail in March.
