Gunflint Trail Canoe Races

The annual Gunflint Trail Canoe Races will be held on Wednesday, July 15, starting at 4:30 pm on the Gunflint Lodge waterfront.

Cook County West End Alanon

The West End Alanon family Group meets each Wednesday at 7 pm at the Lutsen Town Hall.  Alanon is a group that supports friends and family members of alcoholics.  The group welcomes anyone who has been affected by a friend or family member who has a problem with alcohol.

Northern Lotus Meditation

Northern Lotus Meditation takes place on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 pm, with instruction in meditation and room manners at 6:45 pm, at Two Birds Healing Arts Center in Grand Marais.

Bird Banding Demonstrations

Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center hosts bird banding demonstrations on Thursday mornings between 7 am and 11 am. Demonstrations are weather-dependent. Call the Cove to check at 218-663-7679. More information at sugarloafnorthshore.org.

Sawmill Tours

Sawmill Tours at Hedstrom Lumber are held during the summer on Thursdays at 10 am and 1 pm. Tours are led by Steve Robertson, a recently retired interpreter for the US Forest Service. Tours require a reservation. Reservations can be made at hedstromlumber.com.

Understanding Copper-Nickel Sulfide Mining: A Free Community Workshop

The Cook County Coalition of Lake Associations (CCCoLA) hosts an informative community workshop exploring copper-nickel sulfide mining and what it may mean for our region. The workshop will be held on Thursday, July 16, from 12:30 to 3:30 pm at Cook County Higher Education. Presented by J.D. Lehr, Geologist; Margaret Watkins, Water Quality Specialist, Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa; and Sean Leary, North of North Resort, Ely.

Memory Café

Care Partners of Cook County’s Memory Café meets on the third Thursday of each month, from 1-2:30 pm at The Hub. A Memory Café is a casual gathering where people with memory loss and the family or friends who care for them can come together in a safe, supportive, relaxed environment.

Grand Marais Farmers Market

The Grand Marais Farmers Market is held on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 pm at the Cook County Community Center Parking Lot. The market is operated as a partnership between the Northwoods Food Project, the Cook County Community Center, and Cook County U of MN Extension.

Finland Farmers Market

The Finland Farmers Market is held on Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 pm at the Clair Nelson Center pavilions.

Lutsen Block Party

The 10th annual Lutsen Block Party will be held downtown Lutsen on Friday, July 17, from 5 to 7 pm.
